Information about local groups, touring singer songwriters, and folks who just want to jam for the love of it, can be found at Friends of Folk , a rather loosely knit community of people encouraging and supporting the presentation of folk and acoustic music in this region. They partner with the Folkus Project, which focuses on the venues, cafes, community centers, and house parties in Central New York where folk, acoustic, and experimental music can be found. Joining their listserve mailing list will bring e-mail correspondence and conversation from folk/acoustic music fans in the area who exchange opinions and advisories about the local scene. The amount of mail is not so large that it will overwhelm you, and if you opt to receive it in the form of a Listserve Daily Digest, is quite manageable. (About 5 or 6 e-mails a week.) |
